A RECORD TZS 731 BILLION BUDGET FOR 205,000 TANZANIAN HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS IN 2023/2024

The Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Omari Kipanga (MP) today (Thursday, July 13, 2023) launched “Guidelines for Issuance of Grants and Loans for 2023-2024 Academic Year” following the Government’s efforts to set aside TZS 731 billion (USD 300 million) to cater for higher education loans in 2023-2024.

Speaking at the official ceremony held at the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) office in Dar es salaam, the Deputy Minister said a total of 205,000 students are expected to benefit in 2023-2024 academic year set to start in October, 2023.

“The strategic move to increase the loan budget from TZS 654 billion (USD 267 million) which was disbursed last year to the current TZS 731 billion (USD 300 million), confirms the commitment of the Government led by our President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan in supporting human capital development through equitable access to higher education” said the Deputy Minister.

According to the Deputy Minister, the online loan application window will be open for 90 days from July 15th – October 15th, 2023. He reminded students to read and consider the Guidelines which will be available in www.heslb.go.tz and www.moe.go.tz from today, July 13, 2023.

During the event, the Deputy Minister also assured students who are currently in the National Service Camps countrywide that plans were underway for them to apply before closure of the window on October 15th, 2023.

On his part, HESLB Executive Director, Abdul-Razaq Badru said from today, July 13, 2023, HESLB social media platforms will be loaded with weekly loans application updates. The platforms include Instagram, Twitter, Facebook (HESLB Tanzania) and YouTube (HESLB TV).
